First performed in St. Petersburg in 1892, The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet set to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, with original choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. Its story follows Clara, whose Christmas Eve nutcracker doll comes to life and leads her through a battle with the Mouse King and a journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. The production's familiar holiday atmosphere and memorable score have made it a seasonal tradition for audiences around the world.

Highlights include the toy soldiers' march, the battle scene, the Waltz of the Snowflakes, and the dances in the Kingdom of Sweets, including the Waltz of the Flowers. The ballet is typically staged with classical choreography, elaborate costumes, and scenic settings; the growing Christmas tree is one of the story's signature theatrical moments. Runtime is approximately two hours, including one intermission. This family-friendly holiday performance is suitable for all ages, with festive attire encouraged.

December performances bring a seasonal mood to Fort Wayne, where audiences can make an evening of the ballet and the city's holiday festivities. Specific opening acts and production details for this date have not been provided. Prices currently start around $40, with final costs varying by seat location and availability.
